Education is one of the many critical factors in achieving community development. However, given the tuition expenses and the inability of most families to meet such financial demands, quality education remains out of reach to many communities in developing countries, such as Ghana. Providing accessible education is one of the missions we uphold at the Toase Development Association. How do we contribute to such a cause? The answer is through offering scholarship programs.
Preparing for higher education involves securing a significant amount of money. In third-world countries like Ghana, most families must deal with financial barriers that hinder their child(ren) from pursuing higher education. When promising students cannot proceed to higher education, the community rarely produces professionals who can contribute to the significant betterment of their economy. Hence, as a nonprofit organization in Georgia, we aim to offer scholarship grants to Ghanaian students who show dedication to pursuing higher education.
Several scholarship types are available for eligible students. In our case, we generally offer need-based scholarships, which focus on helping students from families lacking the financial capacity to shoulder their education expenses. By actively offering scholarship grants to Ghanaian students, we aim to reduce the (for the lack of a better term) “uneducated” population. People who lack proper education have limited career options and are usually only offered hard-labor jobs with significantly low pay. That is a reality we hope to break with our advocacy.
